Our friction calls are all turned by hand one at a time, so every one of the calls will be slightly unique from all the others. Each call can produce the most realistic turkey sounds: Clucks, Purrs, Yelps, and Kee Kee's. Our calls can also produce the most seductive soft mellow calls to the very aggressive and loud.
Rich has used these calls to complete his Grand Slam, Eastern from Missouri, Merriam from Colorado, Osceola from Florida, and countless Rios here in California. With any luck Rich will complete his Royal slam with the Gould's from Sonora, Mexico this spring, by using Pacific Flyway Company calls.
We first choose a wood type for its tonal quality and appearance, after that we go through and hand pick each piece of lumber.
The call is turned to a 3 3/4" diameter with a groove on the outside for better comfort and control.
Next is hollowing out the center for the striking surface and the sound board. The striking surface is typically a 3" piece of slate, glass, copper, or aluminum.
The sound board is typically a 2 3/4 piece of slate, glass, wood, or sublimation plastic.
The calls with the picture are done with a process known as sublimation. We found that sublimation gives us the most realistic picture quality.
